“When people can walk away from you, let them walk. Don’t try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring for you, coming to see you, or staying attached to you. When people can walk away, let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. What is hardest to accept about the passage of time is that the people who once mattered the most to us are wrapped up in parentheses.
I like this quote, but I don’t know if I particularly agree with the whole “let them walk away” part. After graduation the pool of friends you stay close with starts to shrink. The arguably best 4 years of your life just ended and you find yourself grasping to hold on to anything/everything college. I still refer to my college roommates as my “roommates” to family and co-workers. They often glance at me with a puzzled look before I realize they think I’m talking about my parents (sigh). So here I am back home, trying to hold on to my friendships from college and rekindle my friendships from high school.
Something I’ve reflected on this week: prioritize your friendships. Yes, it is a pain in the ass and quite expensive to go downtown (especially when buying 10 lemon drops at a time). And yes, working a 7:30 to 5:30 job is exhausting during the week. But if I’ve learned anything from post-grad life it is that you should put a little more effort into seeing the people that are important to you. If people are going to leave your life well, they’re going to leave. But some people are worth the extra work.
“I fell in love with her courage, her sincerity, and her flaming self respect. And it’s these things I’d believe in, even if the whole world indulged in wild suspicions that she wasn’t all she should be. I love her and it is the beginning of everything.” -f. scott fitzgerald
Because I love you- 20% off Shopbop until Wednesday! xx
Here is Isla Fisher and her cute ginger daughter Olive going for a bike ride in New York City. Look how fun! Bikes! Helmets! Pedaling!
Haha just kidding! Bikes are for people with ugly feet and a death wish.
While you’ll definitely find a few Gap pieces in my current closet, I think the store as a whole is giant fail. It’s basically the same assortment year after year and it’s basics are clearly better quality than a F21 but let’s face it, I’m not paying $30 for a Gap t-shirt when I can get an James Perse one for $50 (some would argue that this makea me a crazy woman, but I’ll live.) They are in desperate need of a new Fashion Director and if you’ll notice- everything goes on sale, so why would anyone ever pay full price? Talk about a margin killer.
One of my favorites. I can’t wait for her blog to launch this week!
